Erie Shores HealthCare is currently home to 58 inpatient beds and a range of patient programs and services including a 24/7 Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care, Outpatient Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services, Laboratory Services, Obstetrics, Surgery, Cardiopulmonary Services, Pharmacy and Rehabilitation Services.

 

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Services, Capital and Strategic Planning, the Director of Facilities and Support Services will oversee Facility Planning, Housekeeping, Materials Management, Security and Safety, Nutrition Services and Emergency Planning. The Director of Facilities and Support Services will ensure the development of the programs philosophy, goals and objectives and standards; lead the development of new services within the program; and develop existing service improvements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Partner with other organizational leaders to align corporate strategic goals with departmental goals.
  • Develop and administer Corporate Services projects and development of short and long term departmental plans. Provide vision and guidance through effective leadership for future planning and supporting change initiatives. Promote and support all levels of staff through continued education opportunities
  • Planning, monitoring and budget preparation. Ongoing analysis of departmental costs and variances. Monitor costs and revenues - seeks efficiencies and opportunities in all areas. Overall responsibility and accountability to departmental fiscal health, trending and benchmarking.
  • Guide much of the organization supply management and purchasing efforts for the organization.
  • Planning appropriate number of resources and classifications of personnel to provide effective efficient services. Accountable for all aspects of the Human Resources Management within the service, i.e. recruitment, selection, orientation, training, performance management, education, staff discipline, conflict resolution, attendance management, grievances, contract negotiations, Occupational Health and Safety. Provide coaching, mentoring and support to all team members.
  • Identify service improvement initiatives. Design and implement mechanisms to measure quality and desired outcomes. Evaluate and ensure best practice. Conduct analysis of products, processes and equipment. Ensure follow-up on incidents, risks, complaints, and unusual occurrences. Investigate problems and generates alternatives, collaborates with other departments to effectively problem solve.
  • Maintain standards of production, safety and service, sterilization and infection control. Develop and maintain quality assurance programs. Develops goals and objectives, departmental policies and procedures. Review departmental performance indicators and implement changes for improvement. Provide leadership and guidance for other all support services departments.
  • Communicate with Senior Leadership to provide information, recommendations and feedback. Communicate with other Program Directors and Managers for both planning and implementation. Communicate to all levels of staff within the organization of department services, initiatives and changes. Approachable, available and visible for all staff and customers to address needs and provide feedback and support.
  • Work with the VP, balance of senior team and other leaders in patient care and service delivery improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Engineering, Health Care or related field required.
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Health Care or related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years management experience.
  • Knowledge of Ministry funding models, capital planning processes, Master Programming & Planning, reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge in Facilities Planning, Healthcare construction standards, Infection Prevention and Control, Waste Management and Environmental Legislation, CSA/ORNAC, Occupational Health and Safety, Supply Change, Financial Management, Strategic Planning, LEAN principles, Change Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT software systems including Building Automation, MS office, RL6, Facility Management, Ministry Reporting, Security, Materials.
  • Developed network with peers in other similar organizations including being a member in good standing with the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society preferred.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving abilities to lead a variety of complex, diverse and integrated services and initiatives and to achieve desired results within critical timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including management and staff at all levels, government agencies, other health authorities, and external stakeholders and others as applicable.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of audiences internally and externally to the organization.
  • Outstanding listening, collaboration and team building skills that facilitate coordination and cooperation with the demonstrated ability to lead with both courage and humility.
  • High regard for confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate a high level of tact and discretion.
