Cardiac Sonographer

Background

Applications are now being accepted for a Casual Cardiac Sonographer (Echo Tech). The successful applicant would be required to work a variety of shifts from Monday-Friday. The hours of work for this position would include 0700-1500, 1400-2200, and 1400-1800. 

Job Functions
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established for the assigned department while supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of Erie Shores Healthcare
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act 1991 (RHPA), and its requirements
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information
  • Performs all duties with current and relevant professional, legal and ethical standards and evaluates outcomes according to those standards
  • Is responsible for ongoing maintenance of competence by participating in quality monitoring programs, appropriate education and training and for documenting such participation
  • Performs all duties with an understanding of and respect for patients’ rights
  • Reports incidents of unsafe practice, incompetent activity or other professional misconduct of co-workers or other health care providers to the proper authorities as defined by law
  • Collaborates with all other health professionals to ensure the safe and effective delivery of service
  • Within the scope of practice defined by his/her certificate of registration, accepts responsibility for the consequences of his/her actions
  • Communicates effectively with patients, fellow staff members and other health care providers
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and technical elements of required procedures ensuring that correct protocol is followed
  • Demonstrates an understanding and application of continuous quality improvement in procedures related to test performance, related functions and the delivery of services
  • Ensures through education, training and protocols that all procedures performed have been authorized by a physician, and are performed on the correct patient
  • Ensures that the patient’s physical and/or emotional limitations are taken into account in that the patient will not be expected to perform any task that would cause him/her physical harm
  • Ensures that patients are prioritized and procedures completed with minimal waiting time
  • Ensures that procedures are performed according to departmental policy or Internist specifications
  • Establishes and maintains accurate records of patient identity and all procedures performed including electronic validation of procedures
  • Follows required procedure to ensure the patient identified is the person named on the requisition and demographics
  • Ensures that the tests ordered are relevant to the patient conditions or are in the best interest of the patient
  • Consistently practices safety procedures to ensure the protection of self, co-workers, patients and the public from sources of danger including physical injury and sources of infection
  • Implements routine and emergency safety procedures
  • Ensures that the patient is properly prepared and the procedure explained prior to doing the procedure
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario required,
  • Graduate from a recognized Echocardiography Program
  • Experience with IV insertion (preferred)
  • Experience performing Echocardiograms with Contrast and Bubble Studies (preferred)
  • Able to recognize significant abnormalities and create quality reports
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to prioritize and adjust workload to accommodate urgent requests
  • Basic level of proficiency in use of computers and other office equipment
  • ECG Interpretation preferred
  • Cerner Knowledge preferred
  • BCLS
  • Able to work independently
